Sinopsis

Are you in touch with your inner child?

The aim of this book is to help you discover your inner child: Beebo. It was inspired by my desire to take "design" back to people by inspiring curiosity, compassion and creativity around the world. That mission inspired me to write my first book of poems, a window for home without walls: life imagination design. I got the idea for Beebo from the reactions to my first book of poems, especially one of my friends who is a creativity facilitator for children.

My friend Anje Vogt goes from one house to another with her bag of art supplies, sensory experiences, materials, and literacy for children. Children eagerly wait for “Mary Poppins” (the name given to her by her mother in recognition of the magic she brings into the lives of children) to come inspire their imagination and creativity. Anje suggested that the design sensitivities generated by my first book of poems would serve children well if it was written in a format suitable for them. She confirmed what others have pointed out -- that reading my poems feels like a dialogue with their inner voice.

I invited several children between 5 and 13 to draw a picture of a character that represents their inner voice, a character who they speak to when they are upset, angry or confused. A sketch drawn by eight-year-old Coco Thomas from Michigan inspired the character of Beebo. Several other children, parents, and teachers gave me valuable feedback during the entire process of developing this book.

This book was originally targeted at children between ages 8 and 11. However, while writing this book, several parents and teachers who read my manuscripts had a spontaneous reaction, “I wish I had read this book when I was a kid. But it is never too late to find my Beebo.” I realized that adults benefit from finding Beebo as much as children do.

I hope that this book will help you start a dialogue with your Beebo. You can read it alone or with someone you love. You will have many questions when you read this book. Reading it with someone will help you enjoy it even more. Every time you read it you will find new meaning in it.

Talking to Beebo is a magical experience. I would consider my mission successful if you start talking to your Beebo, even when you don’t have this book with you. Because Beebo lives in your imagination. You can talk to Beebo with your eyes closed.
