This heavily-illustrated book , with numerous line drawings by the author, describes the uniforms, insignia, and field equipment of the German Army during the period 1933 - 1945. It describes the evolution of its headgear, from the steel helmet, the peaked caps, and field-service caps as they evolved since the days of the Reichswehr. Descriptions of the uniform fabrics and how they changed due to wartime shortages. The different types of uniform tunic are discussed, particularly the changes to the Feldblus caused by shortages and by the need to simplify their tailoring. The various periodicals, books, and tailoring patterns are described, the tailoring patterns for a range of uniforms are reproduced. The insignia of rank, trade badges, and cuff titles are described and we introduce the special items of clothing for sports and for the Panzertruppen.
