I had a good life, but it wasn't all roses. In December 2020 I bumped into the enemy, covid19, and the ICU of the Hospital Clínic in Barcelona has been the oneiric setting for trips back and forth between life and death. I have learned what an induced coma is all about, the chaos of dreams, trips to the beyond, months spent in a wheelchair, learning to walk again, to do my hair, to put on my shoes, to open a bottle of water... I have also learned how essential it is to ask for help.
I still have it, the good life, thanks to fate, cortisone and an extraordinary life companion, that is luck.
This is a story so that I don't forget small things such as humility, dedication, love and the friendly face of death, the one I have seen. Only when we are far from the end of our days are we able to say "I do not fear death, only its antechamber". But to have it there in front of you by a fortuitous event, to see it lying between your sheets without having invited it... That is another matter.
