A lesser-known part of World War II history is the episode that took place on August 27, 1944, in France, where over 1,200 Ukrainian soldiers from the 30th SS Division (Russian No. 2) shot their German officers in order to join the resistance and fight alongside the Allies against the Germans. This report utilizes numerous documents and eyewitness accounts from the period between early August and December 1944 to provide a detailed account of the events from the perspective of the Ukrainian defectors.
