Em and the Unicorns
Emily, Em to her friends, was fourteen. Which obviously meant that, despite what her mother might tell her, she knew everything.
Of course she knew what was the best time for her to go to bed, and who she should be allowed to spend time with. It was so unreal that mum even thought she could comprehend what it was like to be fourteen, seriously.
And how could anyone not think that old Mrs Arrowthwaite, living in the end cottage all on her own with her two cats, could possibly be anything else other than a witch.
Em also knew that unicorns were real. Well, she had thought they must be real given the number of stories on the internet about them. Even so, actually seeing two in the woods behind the village pond had come as something of a shock.
Who could she tell? Her mum would just laugh. Her friend Pete would probably do the same. Dare she do the unthinkable and tell the witch?
Marcus Stonewall also knew unicorns were real, he had caught dozens during his life. He also knew that he was four hundred and fifty years old, and he needed unicorns whether they liked it or not.
When the two unicorns that Em had found disappeared, it was up to her to save them. Despite the fact that she knew ‘everything’, what she really wished right now, was that she knew how to save unicorns.
