Two Years Behind the Plow describes one small group of Peace Corps volunteer's efforts to engage farmers in the Green Revolution. Between 1969 and 1971 the author lived in a small village located in a remote jungle valley at the foot of the Himalayas in Nepal. With mixed success, he demonstrated the advantages of using hybrid seed and chemicals to increase the productivity of local rice, maize and wheat crops. He also helped stop a cholera epidemic, establish a middle school and finance the first Kathmandu pie shop. Interspersed with humorous tales of his and his friend's experiences, he describes the physical and emotional challenges faced by young American Peace Corps Volunteers living in a dramatically different culture. And for those keen to better understand Nepal today, he the shares the highlights of living there half a century ago.
