Sinopsis

This companion short story gives a more detailed glimpse into Aldera's early days in the Raven Village.

If Aldera is not accepted by the mysterious women who dwell among the pines, she will never realize her dream of soaring through the treetops.

Aldera came to live with her mother’s people to flee the clutches of a vile nobleman, but her dream is no longer that of simple freedom. In the depths of the Ravenwood, under the boughs of the towering pines, she learns that the clan of women others in the kingdom call witches truly do wield power. Most importantly, they can transform into the dark birds that give their forest its name, an ability Aldera desires above all others. Now she must prove she is worthy of becoming one of them or she will never fly.
