Sinopsis

Natural fiber-reinforced materials emerge as sustainable composites, driven by growing environmental concerns and the demand for lightweight, high-performance alternatives to synthetic materials. By integrating fibers derived from plants, engineers develop materials that combine renewability with desirable mechanical properties. Innovations in fiber treatment, hybridization, and matrix design improve interfacial bonding and durability, while advances in processing techniques enable more efficient and scalable production. Examining the interplay between these innovations, processing methods, and resulting performance characteristics may optimize natural fiber-reinforced materials for applications across automotive, construction, and consumer industries. Innovations, Processing, and Performance of Natural Fiber-Reinforced Materials explores the entire lifecycle of natural fiber-reinforced composites, including fiber modification, interface science, and advanced manufacturing techniques like 3D printing, processing, and recycling. It examines their mechanical, thermal, and acoustic properties, as well as their real-world applications, addressing challenges of sustainability, standardization, and industrial scaling. This book covers topics such as biomaterials, pharmacology, and additive manufacturing, and is a useful resource for engineers, business owners, academicians, researchers, and materials scientists.

Acerca del autor

Samir Zidi is currently a Teaching and Research Assistant at Polytech Orléans in France. He earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering with highest honors from the National Engineering School of Gabès at the University of Gabès in Tunisia in March 2024. His academic contributions focus on valorizing natural fibers, such as sisal and Opuntia ficus-indica (cactus), for developing composite materials intended primarily for civil engineering applications. With over five years of experience lecturing and researching in Tunisia and France, Dr. Zidi is a recognized expert in the advanced characterization of composite materials. He utilizes techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and has authored several scientific articles and book chapters on these subjects.
