Ignacio Berroa, born in Havana, Cuba, in 1953, is a prominent jazz drummer celebrated for blending Afro-Cuban rhythms with jazz. After leaving Cuba during the Mariel boatlift in 1980, he quickly gained recognition, joining Dizzy Gillespie's quartet shortly after arriving in the U.S. Berroa has collaborated with jazz legends like McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea, and Tito Puente. An esteemed educator, he created the instructional video Mastering the Art of Afro-Cuban Drumming and authored Groovin' in Clave.
