But when he discovers a mysterious brass compass hidden among his late grandfather’s belongings, his life is turned upside down. Swept into the past, Liam’s first stop is 1943 France - where he meets his grandfather as a teenage resistance fighter helping Jewish families escape the Nazis. But something is terribly wrong. Guided by Eldric, a wise and ancient Timekeeper, Liam must journey through pivotal moments in history - from medieval markets to the burning streets of London in 1666, to the aftermath of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Along the way, he discovers that pain and progress are woven together - and that even the worst chapters of history carry lessons the world must never forget.
