In a pluralistic society that embraces religious diversity, Christians still claim the Gospel excludes all other paths to God. But why only one way? Why not many ways instead?
Human beings have been given an awareness of both a creator beyond and a conscience within. Jesus (alone among spiritual teachers) claims to rule from beyond and promises to dwell within the hearts of believers. Although sympathetic in tone to religious outsiders, the book makes a solid case for Jesus as ultimately the only satisfactory answer as to why “the gate is narrow” (Matthew 7:14).
Besides Scripture, the book draws insights from C.S. Lewis’ observations about the Tao, recent findings about curing obsessive-compulsive disorder, and the inspiration for the language of Esperanto, concluding that while religion may often be the problem, the grace that is found at the heart of the Gospel is its solution. The Good News offers reconciliation with the God who is beyond us and metamorphosis for what is within us.
