Malcolm X: Journey to Brotherhood is a deep dive into the values and beliefs of Malcolm X, starting with his time as a minister for the Nation of Islam under Elijah Muhammad. In popular culture, Malcolm emerges as a heroic, even legendary figure, especially in the African-American community, a man not afraid to publicly condemn white people for their unending racism. Often overlooked, however, is the transformational change that occurred after his visit to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, as part of the pilgrimage all Muslims are expected to make at least once in their lives. The catalyst for the change began with a simple meal shared with blond-hair blue-eyed Muslims, forcing Malcolm X to reevaluate his beliefs. He concluded he had been wrong to place such a great emphasis on skin color and, ever true to his own nature, began searching for a way forward.
