The Best Haiku annual anthologies started when a professional editor, teacher and writing coach was re-introduced to the pleasures of reading in his spare time. Stephen FitzGerald started reading Haiku on social media to "crush on" and share the poets he enjoyed the most. After work, before bed, he read dozens of haiku.

His near-daily crushes went on for a year. Then he began a search to find great haiku from around the world. His website HaikuCrush.com recruits judges to read hundreds of submissions, choose 50 winning haiku for each book, and give honorariums to the best of the best!
