Set against the shifting landscapes of Sudan and Eritrea during the turbulent decades of the 1970s and 1980s, I & Eye: The Mirror, Exile & the Nile is a literary novel of memory, exile, identity, and resistance.

Through the journey of Sumaya, a young woman navigating war, displacement, and competing inheritances, the novel explores the intimate intersections of personal history and collective memory. Rivers, mirrors, letters, songs, and silences become recurring pathways through which the past refuses to remain buried.

Written in conversation with Tayeb Salih's Season of Migration to the North, while drawing upon African, Middle Eastern, and global literary traditions, I & Eye examines questions of belonging, language, gender, revolution, and the afterlives of colonialism. Moving between village and city, homeland and exile, memory and history, the novel invites readers into a world where identities are continually remade and where the search for self becomes inseparable from the search for home.
