In the year 2009 in the middle of Michigan a group of seven preteens tell a scary story to each other every week of the year, each adding their own unique twist to them. There’s Al, the group’s leader and most intense member, who often goes all out on the gory bits. There’s Andrew, the nerdy one who usually has a science fiction bend to his stories, Cheyenne, the quiet girl who often has a melancholy twist, Hannah, the plucky girl who likes to put romance into her ghost stories, Michael, who’s tales are as equally weird as they are scary, Cortez, who aims more for comedy than for horror, and finally MC, who in all actuality cares more about his stories being really good than being really scary.
Presented through the notebook that Al kept to record these stories with chapters written by MC to provide context, this book not only shares the stories that these kids told to one another on those Friday recesses in that fateful year, but also offers a glimpse into activities they had gotten up to shortly before and shortly after telling them. It details how their friendship grows through their mutual love of all things spooky, scary, and mischievous. Watch them break the rules as well as make their own, as their experiences inform and inspire their Scarytales!
