A heart-pounding race against time in the heart of Indiana.
Ben Baker is convinced that Kokomo is the most boring town in America. His biggest concerns are surviving Mr. Wirey’s long-winded science lectures and keeping up with his fearless best friend, Thor. When a powerful storm comes barreling toward town, Ben’s "boring" afternoon is about to become anything but ordinary.
Instead of heading straight home after soccer practice like they were told, Ben and Thor take a fateful detour to the Cone Palace for ice cream. It’s a choice Ben immediately regrets as the wind picks up and the storm gets worse by the minute. Ben and Thor have to make it home and ride out the storm, and learn what Kokomo will do in the aftermath.
Inspired by the real life tornados that hit Kokomo in 2004, 2013, and 2016, this story captures the raw power of nature and the unshakeable strength of a community that refuses to be broken. The book is meant for middle grade audiences.
