I heard someone say, “All people write diaries hoping that they will someday be published.” Not me! I have never thought about it. And if I did, I suspect I would no longer be able to write. I write to process my life. That is all. I write to maintain an inner connection with myself. At the age of fourteen, in my first journal, I found a quote: “We do not live well if we do not write, and we do not write well if we do not live.” For me, writing has always been a second, reflective life. Writing is a companion. It supports authentic living. It transcends me. Something inspiring, productive, and supportive takes place when I journal. And so, I continue to write, with even more frequency as I age. Now I am forty. I believe writing for myself has been the single best habit of my life. - January 29, 2000
My favorite kind of book serves as a companion, keeping me company and guiding me on my journey through everyday life. Today, I wish to give you the very book I would love to read, in a unique voice and format. It can be your daily companion for an entire year, or you might use the topic index to explore your interests or address your concerns. While writing this book, I noticed recurring themes, which I have loosely organized into sections: Self-understanding, Life as a Co-creative Process, and Contributions to Others. I look forward to spending the year as your supportive coach.
