Sinopsis

The procedure ends. Recovery begins.

In the days after surgery, patients leave a controlled clinical setting and enter a home environment where pain, swelling, medications, mobility, wound care, and uncertainty become daily decisions. Practices remain responsible for care, yet much of the recovery experience unfolds beyond their view.

In The Missing 21 Days, Postiva Health founder Kelly Kolek examines the overlooked gap between discharge and follow-up. Through practical frameworks, fictionalized composite recovery stories, and lessons from building a nationwide RN postoperative support service, she shows how surgical practices can create clearer communication, support caregivers, organize patient-reported information, and preserve physician control.

Written for surgeons, practice leaders, nurses, healthcare entrepreneurs, patients, and families, this book offers a disciplined vision for the period when recovery becomes real: the first twenty-one days at home. Recovery should not be an afterthought. It should be part of surgical excellence.

Acerca del autor

Kelly Kolek is the founder of Postiva Health and author of The Missing 21 Days: Closing the Gap Between Surgery and Recovery. Her work focuses on one of the most overlooked parts of the surgical experience: what happens after the patient goes home.Through Postiva Health, Kelly has worked closely with physicians, nurses, surgical practices, and patients to better understand the communication and support gaps that can occur during recovery. The Missing 21 Days grew from that experience and from her belief that patients and families deserve to feel informed, supported, and prepared during the weeks following surgery.Kelly lives in Florida with her family and continues to advocate for a more connected, human approach to postoperative recovery.
