This collection of over 150 black and white and color pen and ink cartoons by artist Remi Bellocq, spotlights the humorous side of the horse racing and breeding industry.
For over 20 years, Bellocq has had his work published in the pages of Thoroughbred Daily News, Blood-Horse magazine, the Daily Racing Form and Florida Horse magazine among other racing publications.
Horses Are Funny, captures the lighter side of daily life as a jockey, trainer, owner, breeder or even just a couple of horses having a chat in a beautiful pasture.
As a former racehorse rider himself, Bellocq brings a first-person viewpoint to the sometimes mysterious world of horse racing - albeit in a very humorous way. Bellocq worked for nearly 20 years as a racing industry executive having worked at such famous tracks as Santa Anita Park and Hollywood Park to name a few. Born into horse racing family, Bellocq is the son of famed cartoonist Pierre "Peb" Bellocq who for over 40 years drew cartoons for both the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily Racing Form.
Horses Are Funny also shines a light on the humorous moments of big event races like the Kentucky Derby, the Triple Crown and Breeders Cup Championship as well as the trials and tribulations of everyday horse bettors.
Horses Are Funny is for both the dedicated horse racing fan or those who may only watch the Kentucky Derby once a year. In the style of The Far Side by Gary Larson, the single-panel cartoons drawn by Bellocq, find what's funny about the mundane moments of horses' daily lives.
