When career soldier Lt. Dan Carter is suddenly discharged from the British Army without warning or reason, he returns home to face the grim reality that his wife and children have left, his house has been repossessed, and he faces a future of unemployment and dead-end jobs. Mystified at how all this has come to be, he tracks down Tyrion, a former comrade, in search of answers.

Dan's luck changes when Tyrion offers him a job in corporate security at a medical company, with benefits that seem too good to be true. Dan has doubts, but accepts the assignment as he begins the quest to win back his family. Soon, though, his suspicions are heightened as strange messages begin appearing to him, and his new colleague and boss, Sophia, makes unusual demands of his time.

Dan's sense of unease is compounded as femme fatale Sophia's intentions become more unclear, and Tyrion's behaviour more erratic. When he witnesses a random act of violence, and then a series of atrocities committed by seemingly ordinary people, Dan begins to suspect a link to the company - and that he's being set up by those closest to him, for a motive he can only guess at.

As his own safety and sanity come under threat, Dan must use all of his military training and expertise to protect himself and those around him from a new existential terror that could unleash untold havoc.
