Alpha Centauri and the planet AC4, now mysteriously known as Klandor, has particular meaning for her. Her aunt was part of the survey team there. In a sense she is still there.
When Lorraine applies to join the proposed colony, she is completely honest and factual in her responses to every question. But she doesn’t make a point of highlighting the connection. She wants to be accepted on her own merits, and she doesn’t like being labeled. And she really hates that the selection committee seems to think that young men are needed, but not young women, and most particularly not a self-opinionated librarian.

Acerca del autor
Marti Ward is an award-winning writer, teacher, scientist and entrepreneur known for his serial startups and his interdisciplinary research.
Marti hasn't been into space yet, but has travelled extensively on this planet, living in half a dozen countries and speaking and reading a variety of languages with varying degrees of fluency. He hasn't yet built an AI as sophisticated as Al or Alice - but is working on it.
