"Close Encounters of the Absurd Kind: A Satirical Sci-Fi Short Story Collection" invites readers on a riotous journey through the aftermath of humanity’s encounters with extraterrestrial beings. In this uproarious anthology, each story offers a tongue-in-cheek exploration of the bizarre consequences that arise when aliens come knocking on Earth’s door. From intergalactic tourism turning famous landmarks into chaotic selfie spots to humans causing mayhem abroad with their peculiar habits and customs, these tales are packed with laughter, satire, and wry observations about the absurdities of human behavior and interstellar diplomacy. Brace yourself for a sidesplitting ride as you navigate the fallout of alien encounters through the lens of humor and wit.
In this collection, author Ismael S Rodriguez Jr deftly weaves together imaginative scenarios, outlandish characters, and sharp social commentary to create a unique blend of science fiction and comedy. Whether you’re a seasoned sci-fi enthusiast or a casual reader looking for a good laugh, "Close Encounters of the Absurd Kind" promises to entertain and delight with its irreverent take on the intersection of humanity and the cosmos. So grab your towel, strap in for a wild ride across the galaxy, and prepare to see the universe in a whole new light-through the lens of satire.

Ismael S. Rodriguez Jr. is a poet and writer whose work dwells in the space where stillness meets pressure. Shaped by lived experience, movement, and sustained attention to power and survival, his writing blends lyrical witness, surrealism, and contemplative resistance. A U.S. Navy veteran who served during Operation Desert Storm aboard a ship deployed in the Mediterranean, he carries an enduring fascination with authority, machinery, discipline, and moral ambiguity-often approached sideways, with humor and grace.
His work has appeared in Halfway Down the Stairs, The Beatnik Cowboy, Chiron Review, Nebo, Home Planet, Lost Lake Folk Opera, Pensive: A Global Journal of Spirituality & the Arts, Muse Literary Journal, and elsewhere. He is the author of multiple poetry and fiction collections and is currently working toward traditional publication while continuing to explore what survives after spectacle fades.
Rodriguez lives in Florida, where he writes quietly, listens closely, and believes that attention itself can be a radical act.
