Sinopsis

The infamous and filthy Drayburns Harbor was always home to thirteen-year-old Kellick Fisk. Raised as a fishmonger’s son, Kell grew up on the seas butchering fish, scaling outrigging, and running the docks, all the while hiding her female identity. But the abrupt onset of puberty thrusts her into a life-altering discovery. Kell is a User, a hated minority who can conjure and control fire.

Betrayed by his best friend and arrested for a crime he didn’t commit, fourteen-year-old Simon Ashway is traded to the Ludas Magnus School of Munera Games, where he starts training to participate in future gladiatorial events under the instruction of a cruel Lanista. While he learns to fight and kill Users in the most brutal of ways, he struggles to process the betrayal that set him on such a bloody path.

With the nation of Berceau on the brink of collapse, insurrectionists at its gates, and the monarchy in disarray, Kell and Simon meet once again—in the arena.

Set in a time both familiar and foreign, Unbound explores the complexities of trust and the effects of trauma on relationships in a world of Users, Viterra, and unspeakable evil.
