As the author, and a twice-divorced marriage and family therapist, I invite you to share my story. My idyllic childhood, in a safe, happy family and community, ill-prepared me for the real world. I think many of us were in that boat. I want my grandchildren (8), great-grandchildren (6), and yours to read stories of what family, community, faith, trust, quiet, simplicity, and hope used to be. The world in which we grew up is gone. I believe people of my age who are still alive owe it to the next generations to leave a record of the "way it was." I have tried to tell the joys and the misery, the delights and the discouragements. It wasn’t all better. But it was a significantly more ethical and moral era. It was less hateful and divisive.
