Threat Resolution Integrative Therapy (TRIT) brings together three levels of inquiry. IRIT examines the information that entered the system and the information already active within the person. CBT examines the appraisal or meaning assigned to that information. REBT examines the rigid evaluative beliefs that can intensify the appraisal. Stabilization and behavioral learning operate across these levels. The purpose of this practitioner book is not to replace established psychotherapy approaches. It is to provide an organizing clinical procedure for situations in which threat-dominant information processing appears to maintain the presenting difficulty. The practitioner is encouraged to preserve uncertainty when evidence is incomplete, distinguish genuine danger from perceived danger, and use practical safety and problem-solving whenever external risk is credible.
The book follows the source manual’s 16-session architecture, while organizing the material into numbered chapters and subchapters for easier teaching, supervision, clinical documentation, and reference. The examples are teaching cases rather than diagnostic templates. The actual client’s culture, developmental level, relationship context, risk profile, and clinical needs must remain central.
TRIT is presented here as a developing clinical model. Its specific measures and procedures should be evaluated through further research rather than assumed to possess established psychometric or treatment-efficacy status. The practitioner’s responsibility is therefore both clinical and scientific: apply established methods competently, document the use of the developing model transparently, and continue to evaluate what changes for the client.
