In the frozen wilderness of 1930s Manchuria, thirty disgraced cavalrymen are sent on a mission from which they were never meant to return.
Branded failures, criminals, and political embarrassments, the soldiers of the Manchukuo Imperial Army's infamous "Damned" are ordered to hunt a ruthless bandit gang terrorizing the frontier. Their commander, First Lieutenant Murata, is celebrated across the nation as a fearless cavalry heroine. The only problem is that her legend was manufactured by government propaganda.
But the greatest danger stalking the steppe is not the bandits.
Fresh from the mountains of Afghanistan, a secret society of British aristocrats has come to Manchuria in search of the ultimate sport: hunting men. Bound by an elaborate code of honor, they believe civilization itself entitles them to choose their prey.
As loyalties unravel, the Damned find themselves trapped between merciless bandits, an unforgiving military command, and hunters who view human lives as trophies. Survival demands impossible choices, and every mile toward freedom carries them closer to a final reckoning on the windswept plains of Manchuria.
For in this hunt, every hunter is someone else's quarry.
