Some shadows follow you home.
Dorothy Wentzel shoots film for the Farmington Chronicle. She believes in light, chemistry, and things she can hold in her hands.
Then a shadow appears in a funeral photograph, lying beside a small, nameless headstone where no one was standing. When she goes back to the cemetery, the shadow is still there. And it begins to follow her.
Six years ago, Dorothy's Nanna rode her old red tricycle to Rambling River Park in the dark, crossed the footbridge over the Vermillion River, and never came home. Everyone called it an accident. Nanna's journal tells a different story, about a grieving fellowship of neighbors who gather by lantern light in a field in the woods, and who believe the river can give back the dead.
Now there is a second shadow. It smells like the bottom of the river. And the people Dorothy has known all her life are waiting for her to come down to the water.
A haunting small-town ghost story of grief, family secrets, and the love that stands in the door.
