Wu Hequan received the degree from the Wuhan Post and Telecommunications Institute in 1964. Mr Wu was engaged in the research and development (R&D) and project management of optical transport system and broadband networks at Research Institute of Posts and Telecommunications, 505 Factory of General Administration of Telecommunications, No.9 and No.5 Research Institutes of the former Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the former MII. He was the Vice President and Chief Engineer of the China Academy of Telecommunications Technology (CATT) from 1997 to 2003. He was elected as an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE ) in 1999 and has been the Vice President of CAE from 2002 to 2010. He is Director of expert committee of Standardization Administration of China (SAC) and the Adviser of the Communication S&T Committee of MII. He serves as the Director of the Experts Committee of China's Next Generation Internet Project. Mr Wu is currently working as technical director of the state's new-generation broadband wireless mobile communication network project, Director of Expert Commission for China's Next-generation Internet Demonstrative Project, Chair of National IoT Consultant Commission. He is senior consultant of China Information and Communication Technology group (CICT). He takes the responsibility to lead and manage consultant study on some engineering S&T projects. as well as senior member of IEEE.
