This book reveals René Magritte's relationship with the American continent - from a troubled beginning in 1936 to his steadily growing success, culminating in the exhibition at MoMA in 1965. The artist's expectations of, but also his accommodating stance towards, the New World public are brought to light. Particular intention is given to his 1956-1966 correspondence with two different art collectors.
