Cortina’S French Method (Twenty Lessons) Intended For Use In Schools, Etc.: And For Self-Study. With A System Of Articulation, Based On English Equivalents, For Acquiring A Correct Pronunciation - Tapa blanda

Sinopsis

A nineteenth-century method that still speaks. Learn French with confident clarity.Rafael Diez de la Cortina’s French Method (Twenty Lessons) is a purpose-built French language course combining classroom discipline with singular accessibility and warmth. Intended for use in schools and for self-study, the book presents twenty staged lessons and a distinctive French articulation system based on English equivalents, an English-based pronunciation method that translates unfamiliar sounds into familiar speech. The approach converts abstract rules into repeatable spoken practice: systematic drills, careful attention to vowel quality and consonant placement, and compact explanations that make pronunciation teachable even without a native tutor. Practical, incremental and unfussy, it operates as a pronunciation self-study guide and as a foundation syllabus for beginners learning French. Because it frames French sound in relation to English speech, learners can practise aloud and self-correct with confidence. Instructors, parents and adult language learners will welcome its economy of instruction and the way the material adapts neatly to a homeschool French curriculum. As an example of nineteenth-century language method, Cortina’s text is both instructional and archival. It represents historical French instruction at a moment when phonetics gained prominence within pedagogy, and it survives as a classic language textbook valued for its plain technical style. Librarians, teachers and private collectors will appreciate its straightforward evidence of past classroom practice; it sits comfortably in a language learning collection alongside other vintage French study and early pronunciation manuals. Casual readers will find an honest, teacherly voice; classic-literature collectors and curators of educational archives will prize its authenticity and provenance. Ideal both for modern study and for historical reference, it rewards careful reading and steady practice. Out of print for decades and now republished by Alpha Editions. Restored for today’s and future generations. More than a reprint: a collector’s item and a cultural treasure.
