The European Institute of Social Security is a multi-disciplinary, international scientific organization, bringing together over 400 specialists in social security study and research from Europe and abroad. Its annual conferences explore new frontiers in thinking and research about social security issues in the world. This yearbook explores the concept of "social risk" from a historical, theoretical and socio-economic perspective. It illustrates this with a study of three important new developments: the need for care for dependent (elderly) people, the need for social protection due to changes in family structures, and the special protection measures to be taken as a result of changes in the labour market.
