Hardcover. Condición: new. Hardcover. This annotated commentary delineating Michel Pecheuxs materialist discourse theory anticipates the formation of a real social science to supersede the metaphysical meanings always-already-there instituted by empirical ideology. Structures of Language presents Pecheuxs consequential work in respect of Ferdinand de Saussures epistemological breakthrough that founded the science of linguistics: the theoretical separation of sound from meaning.Noam Chomskys generative grammar, John Searles philosophy of language, B. F. Skinners indwelling agents, J. L. Austins speech situations,Jacques Lacans symbolic order, and other influential linguistic researchers, are cited to explain imaginary semantic systems. The broader implications for structural metaphysics in language use are tacitly conveyed. In Structures of Languages Joan Casser presents Michel Pecheuxs materialist theory of discourse with reference to a number of significant scholars in the field of linguistics. Some implications of the Saussurian break are outlined to address the ideological ubiquity of self-evident meaning.
