Sinopsis
Progettista ‘globale’, fin dai primi anni di attività, Sergio Asti (1926-2021) è impegnato su fronti differenti, architettura, allestimenti, interni e design di prodotto di cui indaga svariate tipologie – complementi, rivestimenti ceramici, illuminazione, tessuti, arredo, prodotti tecnici e per la tavola – e l’applicazione di materiali diversi, tra cui plastiche, ceramica, vetro, cristallo, porcellana, marmo. Da designer si misura, tra i primi, con i problemi della standardizzazione senza tralasciare lo sviluppo di un pensiero critico che rivendica il diritto all’espressività in ogni creazione. Il volume, che dà seguito all’iniziativa di Fragile di Alessandro Padoan e Alessandro Palmaghini, prosegue la serie di pubblicazioni dedicata al design italiano, valorizzando la variegata produzione di Sergio Asti, protagonista da ri-scoprire, sia come progettista, sia come intellettuale e critico, proponendo una prima sistematizzazione della sua attività.

A 'global' designer since his early years, Sergio Asti (1926-2021) has been involved on different fronts: architecture, installations, interiors, and product design, exploring various types- complements, ceramic coverings, lighting, textiles, furnishing, technical products and tableware -a nd the application of different materials, including plastics, ceramics, glass, crystal, porcelain, marble. As a designer, he was among the first to grapple with the problems of standardisation without neglecting the development of a critical thinking that asserts the right to expressiveness in every creation.
The volume, which follows up on the initiative of Fragile by Alessandro Padoan and Alessandro Palmaghini, continues the series of publications dedicated to Italian design, enhancing the varied production of Sergio Asti, a protagonist to be re-discovered, both as a designer and as an intellectual and critic, proposing a first systematisation of his activity.
Sergio Asti (Milan, 1926-2021), trained as an architect at the Politecnico di Milano, collaborated with leading companies and designed objects that have become icons of Italian design, such as the Profiterolle lamp for Martinelli Luce, the Marco vase for Salviati - winner of the Compasso d'Oro in 1962 -a nd the Trifoglio table for Poltronova. His works, exhibited in national and international museums and exhibitions, are today increasingly sought after by international collectors.
