Con oltre seimila oggetti provenienti in larga parte dall'Europa e dal continente asiatico, Villa san Luca in Ospedaletti (Imperia) - splendida casa-museo allestita dagli antiquari e collezionisti Luigi Anton e Nera Laura donata al FAI - Fondo Ambiente Italiano nel 2001 - si impone come una delle raccolte private dedicate alle arti decorative più importanti nel territorio italiano. Il presente catalogo propone al pubblico una selezione dei pezzi più rappresentativi della vasta ed eterogenea collezione di argenterie prodotte in varie nazioni europee dal XVII al primo trentennio del XIX secolo: dagli antichi stati germanici a quelli della penisola italiana, dalla Francia all'Inghilterra, gli oggetti descritti in queste pagine testimoniano la grande abilità dei maestri argentieri nel modellare il prezioso metallo secondo le tendenze artistiche del momento, proponendo inoltre un "compendio" pressoché completo delle principali tipologie di vasellame e utensili "domestici" in uso sulle tavole delle classi più agiate nell'arco di tre secoli di storia.

Acerca del autor
Charlotte y Peter Fiell son dos autoridades en historia, teoría y crítica del diseño y han escrito más de sesenta libros sobre la materia, muchos de los cuales se han convertido en éxitos de ventas. También han impartido conferencias y cursos como profesores invitados, han comisariado exposiciones y asesorado a fabricantes, museos, salas de subastas y grandes coleccionistas privados de todo el mundo. Los Fiell han escrito numerosos libros para TASCHEN, entre los que se incluyen 1000 Chairs, Diseño del siglo XX, El diseño industrial de la A a la Z, Scandinavian Design y Diseño del siglo XXI.

This catalogue presents a selection of the most representative pieces of the vast and diverse collection of silver produced in various European nations from the 17th to the first third of the 19th century: from the old Germanic States to those of the Italian peninsula, from France to England, the objects described in these pages testify to the great skill of master silversmiths in forging the precious metal while following the artistic trends of the moment, as well as proposing a 'nearly complete' compendium of the main types of tableware and household utensils in use on the tables of the upper classes over three centuries of European history.
