Revolving around two orphaned children who must beg in the Delhi railway station for their livelihood, this story tells of the neglect and injustice that plagues the poor street children of India. Mithu, the protagonist, and his friend, Munni, are separated after Mithu is forced to escape to Mumbai from the clutches of Ratnakar, a drug dealer, who threatens his life unless he accepts his offer to sell drugs. But his escape is by no means permanent and he finds himself sliding down the path to degradation, forced to sell drugs again in Mumbai. After years of seperation, Mithu runs into Munni to discover that she has married into a family who mistakes her for a Brahmin. Jealous of Munni's good fortune, Mithu exposes the real Munni to her in-laws and she is immediately abandoned by her new family and forced back into a reckless life with Mithu. A poignant tale of injustice at the hands of an uncaring society, this is a moving account of street children who have no chance to escape from their misery and deprivation.
