The most important feature of the 73rd Constitutional Amendment is to facilitate social change and social justice among the marginalised sections of the society with the help of reservations. It is indeed a path-breaking step towards evolution of an egalitarian society. The reservation makes Panchayati Raj Institutions more participatory and representative. All sections of rural society get represented and local institutions seem more democratic. Reservation has certainly helped in the improvement of the position and status of Dalits and women in the society. The present study is an empirical survey based on primary data and information.
