Ageing is a continuous biological process which no human can escape. This inevitable and irreversible process affects both physical and psychological well-being. Though it cannot be avoided, the rate at which one ages varies from country to country and person to person. It not only depends on one's genes, but also on the environmental influences and the lifestyle one follows. Traditionally in India, the elderly have enjoyed a place of honor and respect in family and society, but in modern times the younger generation has replaced the aged in strategic positions, leaving them in a weakened and functionless situation. Today, India's aged individuals are being viewed as non-productive and dependent. Thus, there is a need to look into their problems and provide practical solutions to their physical and psychological needs. In this book, contributing scholars from various disciplines examine this key concern.
