The study aims to establish a comparison between the periods of Matriarchy and Patriarchy in societies, highlighting the subjugation of women due to their empowerment from the Middle Ages onwards, with the powers conferred by the Church on men in relation to women. The so-called Witch Hunt was the most repugnant period in history, since the Church itself allowed and sponsored torture sessions for women, because of a possible link to the devil. In conclusion, societies only ceased to have a matriarchal orientation due to the need for physical strength for war and agriculture, which was greater in men, as well as when they realised their importance in procreation, which led to male imposition and supremacy over women. It looks at the historical evolution of discrimination against women in the Brazilian political and social environment, pointing to reports of their performance and mobilisation in social spaces. Confirming women's struggle and endeavouring to make great efforts towards their supposed liberation towards true citizenship. The process of women's empowerment is then discussed in the light of the Brazilian Constitutions.
