It is financed by the European Commission; it officially started in August 1998; started in 1999, the project was originally spread over three years; it will be extended, following an amendment, its official closing was done on December 31, 2003. The abbreviation IPAMED stands for Inventory of the Mediterranean Heritage; the subtitle "Computerized Heritage Map" is meant to remind us that it is a training in GIS. The inventory is one of the priorities for any work on cultural heritage. It is the condition for its knowledge, its preservation and its valorisation.
