This book introduces some research studies with watershed algorithm using distance transform for image segmentation and edge detection. The uses of the proposed techniques make the present approaches much efficient for image segmentation and edge detection in a variety of practical situations. The performances of the proposed approaches are compared with existing watershed approach for image segmentation task. The methods perform best when the objects of interest in the image are well defined, with strong edges with uniform background and in such cases, can be electively used as a replacement of classical image segmentation algorithms. The studies that have been made in this book also deal with the problems of over-segmentation.
