Sinopsis

The purpose of this research is to develop the hydro-dynamically balanced delivery system of Cefixime Trihydrate for the localized action in the stomach, in the treatment of H.pylori mediated peptic ulcer. By applying wet granulation technique floating tablets of cefixime trihydra is prepare. Drug-Excipient compatibility study is performed by FTIR and DSC .Eudragit RS 100 polymer is use for maintaining drug release, % drug release, floating lag time and swelling index. The formulation developed using Cefixime trihydrate, Eudragit RS100, sodium bicarbonate gave floating lag time with a floating time of 12 h, and an in vitro release profile very near to the desired release. In vivo radiographic studies performed with Barium sulphate loaded formulation suggest that the tablet increase gastric residence time for the effective localized action of the antibiotic (Cefixime trihydrate) in the treatment of peptic ulcer.
