A Newer classification system has been developed in 2017 by AAP and the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) to overcome the drawbacks of 1999 classification. Moreover the Peri-implant health/ conditions were not included in the 1999 classification as periodontal disease and Peri implant diseases shared almost same microbial profile. The new classification will help periodontist and general dentist to understand the etiology of disease in a better way and choose optimal treatment plan for periodontal disease.
