Sinopsis

Gender violence or domestic violence is the result of a social and political structure that places women in conditions of inequality with men and is currently one of the main concerns of many States. This book intends to analyze the jurisprudence of the different Courts and International Organizations specialized in Human Rights, when they meet the demands of individuals for the actions of the States regarding violence against women. Within the wide range of human rights that may be involved in issues of gender-based violence, this book will focus on the right to life, effective judicial protection, equality, and the prohibition of torture and inhuman and degrading treatment. In addition, battered woman syndrome, prohibition of mediation in this area and gender mainstreaming in judgments are addressed transversely.
