Alleviation of poverty, the core of the developmental efforts, has remained very complex and critical concern among developing countries. Experience has shown that many of the poverty alleviation programmes through organised credit channels have not achieved the required success. Micro finance can, at best, lead to micro-solution. Micro finance Institutions in the form of SHGs in recent years has emerged as an important link in the Rural Credit Delivery System. This book explains the concept of Micro finance and its implication through SHGs. Also explains the working of SHGs linked bank credit in terms of areas, beneficiaries, volume and pattern of business taken up at the Group level and to make a cross section comparison of functioning of Self Help Groups promoted by the two SHGPIs. Book focuses on thrift and credit activities of the SHGs and impact of SHGs bank linkage programme on income, employment, consumption, savings etc on beneficiaries of SHGs.
