NetDynamicsApplication Server was the first Java-based integrated softwareplatform. The product was developed by NetDynamics Inc., a SiliconValley start-up company founded in 1995 by Zack Rinat and OferBen-Shachar. Unlike other early application server competitorsNetDynamics chose Java as the development language for the platform. AsJava became the dominant development language for web-basedapplications, NetDynamics experienced significant revenue growth in 1997and 1998. However, the product soon encountered problems due to therelative immaturity of Java and the rush to release new product versionsin a rapidly changing marketplace. Believing that the new JDBC API wastoo immature, NetDynamics created a proprietary database development APIbased on a product from Rogue Wave Software.VDM Verlag, Dudweiler Landstraße 99, 66123 Saarbrücken 80 pp. Englisch.
