The CERESCommunity Environment Park, or Centre for Education and Research inEnvironmental Strategies, is an award-winning 10 acre urbanenvironmental centre located in urban Brunswick East, VictoriaAustralia. CERES is pronounced series, and the name may be partiallyderived from Ceres the goddess of agriculture in Roman mythology. CERESreceived the 1996 Banksia Environmental Award for Education andTraining, and has also received many other awards. Many events are heldat CERES including weekend guided tours and private functions. There arethree regular festivals each year - Harvest, in March, BeautifulDarkness, at the winter solstice, and the Return of the SacredKingfisher festival in November. The latter celebrates the first time aSacred Kingfisher was seen on the site after revegetation and thetransformation from rubbish tip. CERES is a popular site for schoolexcursions and research students with around 80,000 students visitingeach year. The property is readily accessible from the Merri CreekTrail.
