This publication provides a concise synopsis of the more comprehensive compendium edited by the German Data Forum (RatSWD) earlier in 2011, entitled Building on Progress - The Continued Development of Research Infrastructure for the Social, Economic, and Behavioral Sciences (ISBN 978 3 940755 58 2). The original double-volume version of this publication contained not only 68 advisory reports that were written by over 100 internationally recognized authors from a wide range of fields, but also executive summaries of these reports, and, derived from these, the recommendations of the German Data Forum on how to improve Germany's research infrastructure in the social, economic, and behavioral sciences. This information has been compressed into the recommendations presented in this short version so that policy makers, research sponsors, institutional data providers, and generally interested readers can gain a succinct overview of the research infrastructure in the social, economic, and behavioral sciences.
