This is an important book about contemporary Swiss design that provides essential information in this sphere of professional and general interest. Posters, furniture, typography, sneakers, textiles: Swiss design is rich, manifold and renowned. The Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SRG SSR idee suisse) has produced film portraits of twenty-five representative designers, such as the Freitag brothers, Hannes Wettstein, Kurt Thut, Lea Scherrer, Esther Brinkmann and Jorg Zintzmeyer. Recorded on two DVDs, they are a part of this book on contemporary Swiss design, which includes reports specially written and illustrated by young photographers. It looks at the designers' way of working and their most important works, and also catalogues their complete works. An essay on the history and the current role and importance of design in Switzerland places them in context, and the book also includes further important names, clients, producers, schools and artists active in several fields. There is an index and an annotated bibliography. The book is a co-production of SRG SSR idee suisse with the magazine "Hochparterre" and Scheidegger & Spiess Publishers.
