This book presents the modelling, simulation and DSP based implementation of fuzzy logic controller (FLC) based interior permanent magnet synchronous (IPMSM) motor drive. The closed loop vector control technique is used for the complete drive. The FLC is used as an intelligent speed controller. A current controlled voltage source inverter fed IPMSM drive is developed and implemented in real-time. The performance of various current controllers, particularly, hysteresis and ramp comparator controllers for the IPMSM drive, are investigated and compared both theoretically and experimentally. The control of IPMSM above rated speed is also investigated utilizing the flux weakening control (FWC) by the d-axis component of stator current, id. Below the rated speed the maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) technique is developed to utilize the reluctance torque. Finally, the performance of FLC based IPMSM drive is investigated in both simulation and experiment at different conditions. To the best of the author’s knowledge this is one of the early real-time applications of FLC for motor drives. The detail implementation procedure utilizing the DSP board DS1102 is also presented in the book.
