Sinopsis
Le Corbusier, cuyo nombre real era Charles-Édouard Jeanneret (1887-1965), se considera el arquitecto más influyente del siglo XX. Desde segundas residencias exclusivas hasta bloques de viviendas sociales, sus ideas, diseños y escritos rompedores presentaban una reinvención a gran escala no solo de proyectos individuales, sino de conceptos de vida moderna.
La obra de Le Corbusier evolucionó de manera muy marcada con el paso de los años, de las primeras casas de su Suiza natal a las deslumbrantes segundas residencias blancas y puristas, pasando por síntesis dinámicas de arte y arquitectura como la capilla de Ronchamp y los edificios oficiales de la ciudad india de Chandigarh. Toda su carrera se distinguió por su habilidad para combinar aspiraciones funcionalistas con un marcado sentido del expresionismo, así como por su conocimiento más amplio y empático de la planificación urbanística, que le llevaría a ser miembro fundador del Congrès International d’Architecture Moderne (CIAM), que abogó por la «arquitectura como arte social».

Acerca de los autores
En 1997, el ministro de Cultura francés encargó a Jean-Louis Cohen (1949-2023) la creación de la Cité de l'architecture, un museo y centro de investigación y exposiciones en el Palais de Chaillot de París. La investigación de Cohen se centró principalmente en la arquitectura y la planificación urbana del siglo XX, y en las culturas arquitectónicas alemana y soviética. Fue profesor de historia de la arquitectura, autor y responsable de numerosos libros y exposiciones sobre arquitectura, y una autoridad reconocida internacionalmente en la obra de Le Corbusier.
Peter Gössel dirige una agencia de diseño para museos y exposiciones. Con TASCHEN ha publicado monografías sobre Julius Shulman, R. M. Schindler, John Lautner y Richard Neutra, así como varios títulos en la serie Basic Architecture.
